Fall is definitely a great time for dog-friendly events!
Thanks to the staff and residents of Clarement Nursing and Rehabilitation for putting on another great event this year benefitting local rescues. We had a great time at the 2nd annual Claremont Canine Carnival on September 6th. The Good Dog Rising instructor team put together a "drill team" obedience performance, and even with the extreme heat that day, Laci, Nano, Gilbert, Cooper, Gil, and Seelie did great and entertained the crowd. If you happened to see us there escorted by the police, no we were not in trouble... we were just hanging out with our favorite K9 officer Deputy Val Weary who was there to do a scent detection demo with her K9 Zuza. :)
Coming right up are two more of our favorite fall events - plan to join us, and bring your dog!
- Saturday, September 27, Furry Friends Network's "Race For Their Lives." Always a great time having a walk for a good cause in a beautiful setting at Gifford Pinchot State Park. You can find details at www.furryfriendsnetwork.com. Please join our walking team! There is same-day registration on the morning of the event.
- Sunday, September 28, Central PA Animal Alliance's "Woofstock." A huge dog-fest with tons of vendors along Harrisburg's Riverfront Park. Really excellent shopping and other activities, and there are always TONS of dogs and dog lovers! GDR is volunteering to man CPAA's "Ask the Trainer" booth, so stop by and say hi!
In other news...
Stay tuned for AKC Canine Good Citizen testing - we're planning on having testing on the evening of October 25th, and the event will be posted for registration as soon as we finalize the details. If there is interest, we will also offer the advanced CGC "Community Canine" test.

A Little Socialization...
We love spending time together with you, GDR peeps!
On July 5th, Good Dog Rising celebrated our first anniversary with - of course - a Yappy Hour event! We had a great turnout of 30 or so students and friends, both with and without dogs. Black Dog Brew Works (Paul Withun, master brewer), and Woofenwald Winegut (Ann Withun, master winemaker) ;) were there, pouring their latest creations, and the food was awesome with a shish-kebab theme! Our friend Jim Hollenbeck was there, taking photos for his wonderful and unique custom artwork. What a great day, grilling out with friends, both human and canine.

On Sunday, July 19th Good Dog Rising hosted both Dog Scout Troop 161 and the GDR Training Club for an agility fun day. We also had a great turnout for this fun event, and we plan to do more similar events soon.

Good Blog Rising?
Introducing.... the Good Dog Rising blog. Time will tell just what it will contain, but it might just be a good place to share news about Good Dog Rising, events, brags from students, pictures, training tips, articles, etc. One of the things I love most about GDR is the sense of community; what makes it such a great place to be is that it is full of great people and dogs. So welcome to the latest place to hang out... come, sit, stay. Make yourself at home.
